So 74 Music was born with all the best intentions in place - and since then I've been incredibly fortunate on this side of the business by beginning to represent some genuine talent within the music world here in the UK. The response to what I always felt was a fairly simple (but effective) USP has been fantastic. Thus far 74 Music is currently working in various guises with -
Mean Poppa Lean - the finest high-energy, hotpant wearing funk band in the UK today. I am incredibly excited about the potential for these guys. Working in conjunction with Insanity Talent and the wonderful crew at Voltz, we're looking to break MPL as soon as seeing as the world needs to hear them, and more pertinently, see their phenomenal live shows. We're all hoping the Madness tour support happens in December, but failing that we are looking at supporting a UK tour in February, including a major showcase gig for a number of our bands sponsored by Voltz in Bournemouth. More news of that to come. Anyhow, please check the boys out at www.myspace.com/meanpoppalean
Kovak - if you're a fan of female fronted synth-pop with edge (think Blondie brought up to date) then you'll love these guys. A major player already on the South Coast scene and hosts of the fantastic Club Kovak nights the guys are currently writing their second album (check out the first one, Heroes & High Heels, on iTunes). Again, have a listen at www.myspace.com/kovakuk and let me know what you think.
Luke Toms - grandly moustachioed legend Luke has supported the likes of Mika and The Zutons in the past, whilst also appearing on the Janice Long show on Radio 2 for a live session. I think Luke's one of the real talents lurking waiting for Mr Cowell's bunch to run out of time, ready to pounce when we actually get some real music talent back on the scene. Luke can be found at www.luketoms.com
Egomaniacs - I'm delighted we're going to be helping out with Egomaniacs library music for ads, films etc. If we can get this up and running as I'd like, there's an opportunity for a new division on the music side as well. www.myspace.com/egomaniasmusic
There's a ton of other stuff running around in my brain of how to develop things further, but then I'm cogniscent of the dangers of trying to do too much and not doing anything well. Saying that, if you know of any genuine music talent around at the moment - please, please do point them my way.
